If the Outlaw system is to be directly synchronized with a Metrc instance, then a Metrc API key is required. Metrc makes this key available via a simple process in their own web console.
Generating an API key
Step 1
Open the user menu by clicking the arrow next to your username in the upper right corner of the Metrc web console then click "API Keys".
Step 2 - (skip this if an API key is already available)
If no key is currently available, click the "Generate" button located near the bottom of the screen.
Step 3
With an API key available, copy and paste the text or QR code (or alternatively, a screenshot) into an email to the Outlaw representative requesting it or the Outlaw order form.
Types of API keys
The Outlaw system requires one "Default" API key. This is typically provided by whomever submitted the order form for the Outlaw devices. This key is used pull in all data from Metrc, such as: Plant, Package, Room names, Strain names, and more. This key will also be used to push data to Metrc, such as: Harvest, Plant moves, Plant destroys, Package moves, Packages adjusts, and more.
Using the Default API key for uploads will result in a Metrc record under that users name. For example, if John generated the Default key, but plants were harvested by Jane, the data would appear in Metrc under John's account. To get around this, Outlaw allows individual users to add their own Metrc API keys. The Default key will still be used to download data, but the user's key will be used to upload data that was collected by them. So in the above example, any data collected by Jane will be sent to Metrc using that API key, and thusly show up in Metrc under their user account.
This User API Key can be set under the "Settings" page of the Outlink Web Console for users with Console or Admin roles. For persons with a role of "User", an organization admin can set it for them by editing their user account from the "Users" page of the web console.
