This article will guide you through what to do after receiving your Desperado Handheld
What's in the box:

Attach the handle
Start by removing the main unit and handle from the packaging. Place the unit screen-down on a table and angle the handle connector into the receptacle on the main unit. See pictures below for clarity:

Charging the unit
The unit can be charged with or without the charging cradle. Both options use the provided power supply and USB charging cable (items 4 and 5 from above). Plug the cable into the power supply and then plug the power supply into an outlet.
Outlaw Technology recommends using the provided power supply and USB cable. Just because the connector from another device (i.e. a cell phone/laptop charger) fits, does not mean it meets the power requirements.
If charging with the charging cradle, plug the other end of the USB cable in the cradle, otherwise, this cable can be plugged directly into the USB Type-C connector on the back of the unit.
Handheld's power states
On the left side of the device are three buttons. The forwardmost one (circled above) is the power button.
Power On
To turn the device on, press and hold the power button for a couple of seconds. In one to two minutes the device will be booted and the lock screen will be displayed. Note: this step is only needed when the device is fully powered off as opposed to sleep mode.
Sleep Mode
To balance between convenience and battery life, the unit has a sleep mode. In this mode the RFID module and the screen are turned off. The device will enter this sleep state automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity or by quickly pressing and releasing the power button. While in this mode, battery usage is greatly reduced and coming out of sleep mode takes only seconds. A short press of the power button or the home button (⌂ icon below the screen) will wake the device.
This mode is good for when the device isn't currently being used but might be in the near future.
Power Off
To power off the device, start by waking it from sleep mode. Once the screen is on, press and hold the power button until a popup box is displayed. Tap the "Power Off" option in the popup. Use this mode when the device won't be needed for some time (overnight or over the weekend).
